Twelve Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Friday – a development confirmed by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.
With this encounter, the number of Maoists killed this year has crossed 100.
Till April-end, 91 Maoists had been killed by security forces; the figure has now gone up to 103 – the highest since 2019.
In 2018, security forces had killed 112 Maoists, and in 2016, a total of 134 Maoists were killed – the highest figure since the formation of the state.
Friday’s incident took place in Gangaloor area under the jurisdiction of Pedia police station in Bijapur district, considered a Maoist stronghold.
“I congratulate the security forces. Since we have come to power, we have strongly fought against Naxalism. Both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah want Naxalism to end soon, and we are getting the benefit of double engine sarkar,” the CM said.
