Through the pre-booking website, Sime Darby Beyond Auto (SDBA) has also essentially revealed the BYD Seal variants that will be released into our market soon. Customers can choose from three options: Dynamic, Premium, and Performance.

In terms of colourways, it depends on specific variants. For example, the BYD Seal Dynamic can be obtained in just two colourways including Cosmos Black and Aurora White.

On the other hand, you can get the higher-end BYD Seal Premium variant in Atlantis Grey in addition to the two colours we mentioned earlier. Meanwhile, all three colours are available for the BYD Seal Performance as well as Arctic Blue.

The pricing for the BYD Seal is still absent from the website but from what we know so far, the EV will probably be priced around the RM200,000 region in our market.

To pre-book the new BYD Seal, all you need to do is pick the variant, colourway, and dealership of your choice before sealing the reservation with an RM1,000 pre-booking fee that you can pay directly on the website with credit card and bank transfer

Unlike Tesla, the pre-booking fee is refundable. There is a catch though as you will only get 90% of the pre-booking fee according to this particular provision inside the pre-booking Terms and Conditions:

The Company shall refund the sum equivalent to ninety percent (90%) of the Booking Fee (“Refund”) to the Purchaser/Hirer if the Purchaser/Hirer shall cancel the order of the Vehicle but before the Purchaser/Hirer signs the hire-purchase agreement with the Bank.

Positioned as the base variant for the model, the BYD Seal Dynamic features a single 150kW (201hp) electric motor with 310Nm of torque. The motor allows this rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant to go from 0 to 100km/h in 7.5 seconds.

As for the mid-tier variant, the BYD Seal Premium pushes things slightly further with a more powerful 230kW (309hp) electric motor that also produces 360Nm of torque. Still featuring an RWD setup, the additional firepower resulted in a quicker sprint timing of 5.9 seconds.

The sole all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant for the model is the BYD Seal Performance. This dual-motor EV can deliver a total output of 390kW (523hp) as well as 670Nm of torque while also having the ability to go from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

Battery-wise, BYD has fitted the base Seal Dynamic with a 61.44kWh battery pack which allows this variant to deliver a WLTP-rated range of 460km. The higher-end Seal Premium and Seal Performance are equipped with a much larger 82.56kWh battery pack.

Hence, it is not surprising to see that the Seal Performance can provide a much higher range at 520km. At the same time, the Seal Premium can go even further with up to 570km of range.

Another factor that separates these three Seal variants apart is their charging capabilities. SDBA did not reveal which onboard AC charger the Malaysia units will carry, so we have to assume that they will still feature a 7kW AC charger as per the BYD Seal that was sold in Singapore.

The Seal’s specs sheet for Singapore also said the Seal Dynamic can support DC fast charging of up to 110kW while its Premium and Performance counterparts maxed out at 150kW. Despite the differences in charging, speed, the specs sheet said that all three variants take around 32 minutes of DC charging time to go from 30% to 80%.
