Sheep-shearing sex offender, 32, who was jailed on the Falkland Islands is now back on the streets after serving 18 months for luring teenage girl to his home and assaulting her

A nomadic sheep-shearing sex-offender considered ‘high-risk’ has been returned to the streets of Britain after being imprisoned in the Falkland Islands for a horrific attack on a teenage girl.

Roland Wedgwood-Orekoya, 32, who previously travelled the world as a sheep shearer, was jailed in the British territory after he lured a teenage girl to his home on the island and sexually assaulted her.

The attack, which took place in April 2022 in Port Stanley, saw Wedgwood-Orekoya approach his victim at a burger van before tricking her back to his flat under the pretence they would share cannabis together.

Upon arrival, Wedgwood-Orekoya stripped himself naked and attempted to force himself on her, tearing her clothes and giving her bruises in what the prosecution called a ‘sustained assault’.

The terrifying assault only ended when his victim punched him and escaped the house and resulted in Wedgwood-Orekoya being sentenced to 18 months inside.

But after serving his sentence, the sex offender has now been returned to Britain and is already roaming the streets of Glasgow.

Under his strict licensing requirements, Wedgwood-Orekoya has been ordered to sign the sex-offenders register until 2032.

He will be frequently monitored and must notify authorities if  he changes his name or address.

Wedgwood-Orekoya’s probation report had suggested his ‘transient lifestyle’ as a sheep shearer meant he possessed a unique danger.

Whilst sentencing him in 2022,  Judge Malcolm Simmons said: ‘You have been assessed as being a high risk of harm to the public, namely females, especially those to whom you are sexually attracted. There was clearly a level of violence in the way you manhandled your victim.

‘This was clearly a frightening event for her.

‘What occurred was not a momentary touching but a sustained assault.

‘She was living at home with her parents, having recently left school. You are a man in your thirties.

‘You specifically targeted a particularly vulnerable victim, a young girl who you knew had been drinking. You continue to deny the offence. You have shown no remorse.’
