Indira Gandhi Assassin’s Son Sarabjit Singh To Contest Lok Sabha Polls From Faridkot Seat In Punjab

The son of one of the assassins of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi has said that he will contest the parliamentary polls in Punjab, reports news agency PTI. Sarabjit Singh Khalsa, who is a class XII dropout, is the son of Beant Singh, one of the two killers of the late Prime Minister.

Sarabjit Singh Khalsa had unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha polls from the Fatehgarh Sahib (Reserved) and Bathinda seats in 2014 and 2019 respectively. He was the candidate of the Bahujan Samaj Party in 2019.

Beant Singh and Satwant Singh, bodyguards of then PM Indira Gandhi, had riddled her with bullets on October 31, 1984, at her residence.

According to news agency IANS, Sarabjit Singh Khalsa declared assets to the tune of Rs 3.5 crore in the election affidavit in 2014. Singh’s  mother, Bimal Kaur, and his grandfather, Sucha Singh, became MPs from Ropar and Bathinda, respectively, in 1989.

Polling for 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab will be held on June 1.

The AAP has fielded actor Karamjit Anmol from Faridkot Lok Sabha seat, while the BJP has named singer Hans Raj Hans for the polls.

The Faridkot seat is currently represented by Congress MP Mohammad Sadique.
