Former Paroi assemblyman Mohamad Taufek quits Amanah

SEREMBAN: Former Paroi assemblyman Datuk Mohamad Taufek Abd Ghani has quit Parti Amanah Negara, says Negri Sembilan Amanah chief Datuk MK Ibrahim Abd Rahman.

MK Ibrahim said Mohamad Taufek, who was also a member of the state executive committee before the last state election, had notified the party of his decision in its WhatsApp chat group.

Mohamad Taufek was not fielded in the last state election.

“He did not contact me but sent a message in the state party WhatsApp group around 6pm yesterday (Nov 20).

“Mohamad Taufek informed us that he had submitted his official resignation letter to the party secretary-general stating that with effect from Nov 20, both he and his wife were no longer party members,” he said.

MK Ibrahim refused to comment when asked if Mohamad Taufek resigned as he was upset for not being fielded in the state election.

MK Ibrahim, who is state legislative assembly Speaker, admitted he was surprised by Mohamad Taufek’s decision.

“He should have discussed this with us first. It is pointless for me to ask him why he quit now,” he said.

Mohamad Taufek, when contacted, refused to comment on the matter.

He was first elected Paroi assemblyman in the 2008 polls when he was with PAS.

He failed to defend the seat in the 2013 general election but made a comeback under Amanah in 2018 to serve a second term.

He was not fielded in GE15 and his replacement Norwani Ahmat lost in a three-cornered fight.
