1. Scarify

The first step to achieving your dream back garden is scarifying the ground, according to the lawn experts.

They advise gardeners to use a special rake or a machine to remove the dead grass and debris on the surface.

'This helps to improve the quality of the soil and promotes new growth,' they explained.

Getting rid of such foliage also allows light to reach your grass and so it can also take in more air, meaning grass growth will improve.

If left to simmer, the thatch or matted debris can suffocate the lawn as water won't be able to reach the roots.

You can scarify your lawn by using a spring-lined rake or if you want to fork out on flashy equipment you can buy an electric scarifier.

2. Fill Holes

After scarifying the lawn, the next step to a party-ready garden is filling in all the variously sized-holes. The pros at Premier Lawns recommend using top soil to fill any holes to level the area.

Top soil is the upper layer of soil usually found between two to eight inches beneath the ground's surface. It contains the majority of the ground's nutrients, Online Soil reports.

The nutrients in this specific type of soil makes it a great choice for closing holes as it also promotes healthy grass growth.

3. Level the Ground

Once all the holes dotted around your garden are packed out with soil - the next step is to level out the ground.

The experts over at Premier Lawns advise gardeners to simply use their feet when carrying out this step.

They added: 'This is an effective way to compact the soil and create a level surface for your grass to grow on.'

4. Spread Seeds

After levelling the ground, its time to launch your seeds across the area, according to the gardening professionals.

'It's important to make sure that the seed makes good contact with the soil, so lightly rake it in after spreading,' They said.

'Good seed-to-soil contact is essential for successful germination.'

Seed germination is a key component in not only continuous plant production but also human survival, especially in regard to medicinal plants and the food supply of certain animals, according to Science Direct.

5. Apply Seaweed Fertiliser

To make sure your green space is glistening and green, the experts advise you apply a seaweed fertiliser.

They described it as 'an excellent natural fertiliser', which boasts various nutrients which are essential for plant growth.

You usually wouldn't imagine launching seaweed all over your back garden to breath a new lease of life into your grass, however in it's liquid form seaweed proves beneficial.

Packed full of nitrogen, potassium, phosphate and other regulators and hormones, liquid seaweed is a key element in bettering the health of your garden.

6. Apply Pre-Seeder Fertiliser

The final step to get your lawn luscious, level and green includes using a pre-seeder fertiliser.

'This type of fertiliser is specifically designed to promote healthy root growth and ensure that your new grass seedlings have the nutrients they need to thrive,' they said.

Pre-seeder fertiliser has a range of benefits that will help your new level back-garden grow back healthy.

This fertiliser not only prepared your soil for new seeds, it also strengthens the roots as well as aids grass to growth through the magnesium and iron it contains, according to The Grass People.
