Immigration nabs 29 illegals in Rawang factory raid
PETALING JAYA: An operation against illegal immigrants on Monday (June 24) morning in Rawang saw 29 people arrested.
Immigration enforcement director Basri Othman, who spoke to the media at the scene of a factory raid, said that the operation was conducted at 11am Monday.
The department arrested 21 Bangladesh and eight Nepal nationals after inspecting 128 foreigners there.
According to investigations, the suspects, aged between 21 and 50 years old, had no valid travel documents.
During the raid, there were those that tried to run and hide from the authorities but their efforts were thwarted.
"All will be brought back to the Putrajaya headquarters for further investigations," he said.
Checks also showed that there were workers who stayed in the factory.
"Based on our checks, this factory does not have a lot of foreign workers but when we raided, the numbers did not tally," he said.
