‘Big increase’ in Defence spending expected but not in forward estimates

Sky News Chief Election Analyst Tom Connell has detailed the likely outcome of Defence spending from tonight’s budget.

“There is a big increase in Defence but intriguingly not in the forward estimates," he told Sky News Australia host Peta Credlin.

“Most of the spending there is going out after the ten years because they are delaying cutting projects in the short term.

“There’s been some criticism from the Coalition on that because supposedly we need to be ready in the short term for a conflict with China or similar, and most of that spending is in the ten year.”
