A Gen Z woman has revealed how she wore a Waitrose uniform shirt while on a night out, after mistaking it for vintage wear in a charity shop.

Holly Howes, 26, from London, took to TikTok to share the hilarious moment she realised that a shirt she'd bought from a charity shop, was actually part of a supermarket uniform.

The Gen Z-er, who describes herself on the app as a comedian, made a video to describe how she wore a black and white pinstriped shirt to a club.

'I have just realised that the shirt I bought from a charity shop last week and have been wearing all weekend, is in fact the Waitrose uniform,' she admitted in the clip.

Holly then shared a picture of herself cuddling a friend in a bar, while wearing the long-sleeved shirt.

Holly Howes, 26, from London, was gobsmacked when she realised the shirt she bought from a charity shop, was actually someone's Waitrose uniform

'I wore that to the club Friday night,' she exclaimed, appearing horrified at her embarrassing error.

Before going for the night out, Holly said she felt confident wearing her new purchase.

Describing how she felt during the hilarious video, she said: 'This is me, I'm feeling good, I'm feeling hot, I'm feeling powerful, I'm on the Overground, got Brat in my ears, life is beautiful...

'I literally look like I'm on my way to do a night shift!'

While at the venue, the 26-year-old made eyes at the DJ, hoping to catch his attention, unaware of the branding on her top.

'I'm in the club, I'm dancing, having a good time. There's a sexy DJ and I'm hoping he's looking at me back,' she said.

'He probably thinks I've just finished my shift at the cheese counter!'

Her shirt was adorned with Waitrose branded cuffs on the sleeves - but she didn't notice them at first.

Sophie had even missed cuff links which had Waitrose written on them. 'I'm going up to the bartender asking for drinks with these on my wrist' she joked

'I'm going up to the bartender asking for drinks with these on my wrist' she joked, sharing a picture of a small green badge with the word 'Waitrose' on it.

'This is a gorgeous look but it's not the look I'm going for.'

Sadly for Holly, proudly stepping out in a supermarket uniform wasn't her only outfit mishap.

She said: 'Do you want to know the worst part? Someone came up to me and said "I love your shirt, where did you get it" and I said it's from a charity shop, sustainable, don't think you'll be able to get another one.'

She then added: 'Go to Waitrose Holloway road, everyone's wearing one!'

Buying clothes from charity shops has become increasingly common especially among younger people, as an alternative to fast fashion brands which can use unsustainable practices to mass-produce clothes.

As a result, much of what's purchased in second hand shops is recycled or has been uniquely made. Holly had thought she'd found a bargain item when she walked out of the charity shop with the Waitrose shirt under her arm.

Luckily, she was able to see the funny side of the ordeal and comments below the video revealed she isn't the only one to have fallen victim to a charity shop uniform purchase.

Viewers of Holly's video rushed to the comments to share their experiences of wearing retail uniforms

One commentator wrote: 'This makes me feel better about wearing a charity shop KFC shop shirt ... To KFC. They were all wearing it.'

An employee at Waitrose rushed to share her experience having worn the same shirt on a night out.

'I used to wear that - once I even wore it to the club with a bag of reduced goods.'

A third hilariously wrote: 'That could very well be my uniform - I forgot to return my uniform and ended up putting it in a charity bag.'

It's not the first time that charity shops have come under fire for reselling supermarket goods.

Earlier this year, one woman was left furious after spotting an empty Bonne Mamman glass jar in a charity priced at £2.50.

In comparison to the British Heart Foundation's price, an unopened jar of the fruit preserve currently retails at £3.50 from Ocado.

High street supermarkets such as Sainsbury's and Tesco sell theirs at a slightly higher price, at £3.30, but they also contain the actual marmalade.

Laura McInerney who shared her experience with the empty jam jar on X (formerly Twitter), also expressed her shock at finding a photo album that was six years out of date for £6, as well as an old free Barclays notebook retailing for £4.

Others took to the comments to share their horror at charity shop prices.

Another X user revealed: 'I once saw one of those Grolsch beer bottles with the fancy stopper at a junk shop. For the same price, I could have bought four with fresh beer in from the booze shop next door.'

Someone else chimed in saying: 'I like to go back to charity shops a few days after I've donated, just to see what they've done with my stuff. Recently, a [plastic leather] backpack was labelled as £12 and new shoes as £15. Both more than I paid new.'
