Is the NBA in trouble if Denver Nuggets land Daron Holmes II in NBA Draft?

The Denver Nuggets season ended in disappointing fashion at the hands of Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves, but they remain close to another Finals appearance.

One department that the Nuggets were undoubtedly lacking in was interior presence when MVP Nikola Jokic was on the bench. The NBA Draft could solve that problem with the No. 28 pick, where The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor believes Dayton big man Daron Holmes II could go off the board.

"ESPN reported that Holmes shut down workouts and the speculation is that the Nuggets made him a promise," O'Connor wrote. "If that’s true, then Holmes could be the floor-spacing, versatile big man that the Nuggets wish Zeke Nnaji had become."

The definition of the modern-day big, Holmes can dominate as a force in the paint while also shooting 38.6% from 3-point range. As of now, a combination of Peyton Watson and DeAndre Jordan play second fiddle to Jokic, but neither can stretch the floor. While Holmes doesn't have the biggest frame at 6-foot-9, it shouldn't come as much of a concern when considering one of the league's top defenders, Bam Adebayo, is the same height.

The Nuggets are headed on the path to another successful season, especially if they're able to select Holmes in the late first round.
