Olivia Newton-John's social media hit with anti-LGBTQ comments after innocent photo

The late Olivia Newton-John's social media has been flooded with comments against the LGBTQ community after a post was put up this week.

The singer/ actress lost her battle with breast cancer in 2022 which she had been fighting for nearly 20 years.

Olivia was a strong advocate for the community when she was alive but many fans and followers felt that this was a step too far.

The picture showed the star wearing a rainbow jumper, a renowned symbol associated with the LGBTQ community, followed by the caption 'Happy Pride Month,' followed by several multi-coloured heart emojis.

While the post was supposed to generate positivity, it did the opposite, causing many homophobic messages to be written.

One person stated 'She is not here on earth anymore. Don't use her page to pander to the alphabet community,' with another supporting this by saying 'And another unfollow, unfortunately, I cannot support sin praying for you tho.'

Many believed that this was a cheap shot: 'Actors, Actresses, singers, celebrities etc should just stick to what they do best period. Olivia was not a confrontational or argumentative person and the world adored her for her talent and kindness. She is no longer with us. Why are we posting this nonsense? It's so distasteful.'

While many people were disgusted with the post, others did bite back, trying to highlight the homophobic tone of so many.

Others spoke of how the rainbow jumper was also a symbol that stood against cancer.

While the post remains on her social media, the comments section has since been turned off, preventing others from leaving a message.
