The Indiana Fever picked up their 5th win of the WNBA season on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Chicago Sky by a final score of 91-83. With all eyes on the Caitlin Clark vs. Angel Reese battle, Clark out-dueled her rookie counterpart, finishing with 23 points, 9 assists, and 8 rebounds in the victory.
Reese played well despite the loss, finishing with 11 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 assists, but was in foul trouble for much of the game. This included a hard foul on Clark that was upgraded to a flagrant one after review, which has sparked a lot of discussion.
Both Clark and Reese agreed after the game that it was a basketball play, as it was unfortunate, but incidental contact to the head. Clark was able to get up and make two free throws before closing out the victory with her scoring and playmaking.
Following this big win, the Fever shared an exclusive locker room video of head coach Christie Sides sharing a message of encouragement to her players, saying, "I am so proud of ya'll, we are streaking right now."
Indiana has won two-straight games for the first time all season, and while that may seem like an insignificant accomplishment, it is a big step in the right direction for a young group that is growing game by game.
For Clark, she strengthened her Rookie of the Year candidacy with this performance, as the Fever star is now averaging 16.1 PPG, 6.2 APG, and 5.1 RPG on the season.
