Ukraine will hold peace talks with Russia within hours if its troops pulls out of the country, Zelensky says

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that if Russia withdraws its soldiers, peace negotiations will take place in a matter of hours. However, he issued a warning: "Any way we can" must be used to stop the war since tyrant Vladimir Putin will not put an end to it.

At a peace conference in Switzerland, Putin made remarks while more than 80 nations signed a declaration endorsing Ukraine's right to defend its borders and holding Moscow accountable for the war.

Nonetheless, a few of the summit's participants—including Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and India—did not sign. China, Russia's largest ally, did not attend and was not invited.

The aim of the two-day gathering was to garner as much support as possible for a procedure that could contribute to the cessation of the conflict in Ukraine. The final agreement demands that Russia return Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

Additionally, it refers to Putin's incursion as a "war," a term Moscow has repudiated. It demanded the return of kidnapped Russian children and the exchange of all prisoners.

The most controversial subjects, such as the status of territory occupied by Russia, will be saved until last. Zelensky told reporters following the talks, "If Russia pulls out of our territories, we can start negotiations tomorrow." Dutch PM Mark Rutte said: “We are totally united at a shared vision on principles, on values, on decency.

“You do not invade another country. You do not abduct children. You do not play politics with the world’s food supply. And you do not endanger nuclear safety.”

Fighting and destruction has raged in Ukraine since Russia's invasion two years ago with Moscow's forces making incremental progress in recent weeks following months of near-stalemate. The second-largest city in Ukraine, Kharkiv, has seen Russian forces cross the international border and make what observers are referring to as "tactically significant advances".

They appear to have gained control of Vovchansk Central District Hospital and have made progress in the northern parts of the town, according to US-based analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW). Additionally, they have made minor progress in Starytsia village and have moved closer to Lyptsi village to the west.

Following its unexpected border crossings, Russia has escalated its offensive on the area, taking control of multiple villages and settlements in one of the biggest ground operations since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine started in February 2022.
