2025 Mini Cooper 4 Door Arrives With More Space, Less Style
- Mini unveils the more practical Cooper 4 Door months after the 2 Door debuted.
- Two engine options are available: Cooper C (156 hp/170 lb-ft) and Cooper S (204 hp/221 lb-ft).

Months after the new Mini Cooper 2 Door was unveiled, the BMW-owned boutique brand is lifting the wraps of the more practical 4 Door, dropping 'Hardtop' from the name. At launch, two gasoline engines will be available (in Europe, at least). The Cooper C is the base model and comes with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine that develops 156 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque. That may not sound like much, but it's very respectable for a car of this size.
As a result, it can sprint to 62 mph in eight seconds and reach a top speed of 134 mph. That should make it a rather nippy runabout, but the Cooper S has stronger outputs if you're looking for more impressive performance. The four-cylinder motor has 204 hp and 221 lb-ft, resulting in a 0-62 mph sprint of 6.8 seconds and a 150 mph top speed. Trims and engines are yet to be confirmed for the United States, so it is possible that the American market may receive different options. It’s worth noting that the 2 Door is slightly quicker in both trims. Last year, reports suggested that an all-electric 4 Door is in the cards. CarBuzz reached out to Mini USA, and a company representative confirmed that "the 4-door Cooper and Cooper S will have versions of the 2.0 liter turbo 4cyl engine tuned specifically to each model" in the USA.
Strong Performance, Sharp Handling
Mini says it has tuned the Cooper 4 Door's suspension to be dynamic and comfortable. During spirited driving, the preloaded anti-roll bar mounts on both axles provide balanced handling, creating a more stable and poised feel. This also makes the steering sharper and more accurate. Mini offers wheel sizes ranging between 16 and 18 inches, although vehicles with 17- or 18-inch wheels get wider tires for a "go-kart" feeling.

Adding two extra doors certainly doesn't do the Mini Cooper 4 Door any favors, style-wise. It may not be as attractive as the 2 Door, but it's certainly not ugly and is far more appealing than its awkward predecessor. But what you lose in style, you make up for in cabin space. Like its sibling, the 4 Door receives the signature round LED headlights, wraparound glass, and an octagonal front grille. Round back, you'll find LED taillights inspired by the original Mini's vertical clusters.

Plenty Of Trims To Choose From
Like the 2 Door, there are several trims to choose from. Essential is the base offering, with a minimalist exterior and Vibrant Silver exterior finishes. The Classic Trim is a bit more exciting thanks to its contrast roof (black or white) or the Multitone roof with the unusual gradient finish. The Favored trim is identified by the grille frame and other exterior elements finished in Vibrant Silver. Lastly, the JCW trim adds sportier bumpers, a rear diffuser, and an available Chili Red contrast roof.

The convertible is set to make its debut later this year.
Mini hasn't mentioned the increase in rear legroom, but it's clear that the 4 Door is a more spacious hatchback, with space for three passengers in the second row. The body is 6.77 inches longer than the 2 Door, while the wheelbase has been lengthened by 2.83 inches. Interestingly, the overall dimensions are near-identical to the outgoing Cooper 4 Door. The trunk offers 9.7 cubic feet of space, but this is increased to 32.6 cubic feet with the 60:40 split-folding rear seats stowed away.

More Room For Luggage And Passengers
Besides increased space and a more generous second row, the interior is identical to the one in the 3 Door. That means a minimalist cabin with lovely detailing and a central 9.4-inch OLED display that takes pride of place on the dashboard. Positioned just below are the toggle switches, which, in the latest Minis, control the gear selector, audio volume, parking brake, and start/stop function.
The interior, mirroring the exterior, is also available in four distinctive trims. Essential models receive black fabric-covered sports seats with a Vibrant Silver accent cover and a two-spoke steering wheel. The Classix trim gets a three-spoke steering wheel, 2D knitted fabric (in gray and black) for the dashboard and door cards, and faux leather upholstery. JCW models receive black imitation leather with red stitching, among other things. Of course, the Experience Modes also form part of the package. Mini has yet to publish pricing and local availability for the 4 Door, but we expect an announcement later this year. Specification and engine options may differ slightly once the Mini Cooper 4 Door reaches our shores.
