Floreat surf life saving club receives $655k funding boost to improve rescue services
The Floreat surf life saving club has received more funding to help it improve its rescue service and community engagement.
The Town of Cambridge announced the $655,000 cash splash from Lotterywest last week, which will go towards new equipment, better training facilities for lifesavers and expanded spaces for community events and educational programs.
It comes a month after the club received another $655,000 grant — this time from the State Government — which focused on accessibility improvements such as the installation of an accessible front door and universal access toilets with showers.

Mayor Gary Mack said the additional funding would help foster a safer and more connected community.
“This funding is crucial for the Floreat SLSC and the Cambridge community. It will improve the club’s rescue services and encourage more community involvement in lifesaving activities and beach safety education,” Mr Mack said.
Floreat SLSC president Cathy McIntyre was enthusiastic about the club’s “next phase”.
“Receiving this grant is a fantastic opportunity for the club to be all-inclusive and to support both our members and the wider community,” Ms McIntyre said.
“Our club is grateful and appreciates the support that has been given by the town, Lotterywest, and the State Government. We cannot wait for the next phase of our club upgrade to begin.”
The redevelopment project is set to begin later this year and expected to be completed next year.
