EcoCash launches new mobile App

EcoCash, Zimbabwe's leading mobile money platform, has launched an all-new mobile app, with enhanced security and a vastly improved and intuitive user interface, which includes several more features compared to the old app.

The new application, which was launched in Harare today (Thursday, June 13, 2024), now allows EcoCash customers to send money to multiple recipients, exchange currencies between the US dollars and Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG), download statements and view expanded transaction history, among other convenient features.

This is in addition to features on the old app, such as buying airtime, paying for ZESA tokens, as well as paying merchants such as supermarkets and paying bills at institutions such as hospitals.

Munyaradzi Nhamo, EcoCash Managing Director, said the latest upgrade marks a important step forward in the company’s commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction.

“The features in our new mobile app are a direct response to the feedback we have received from our customers. We are committed to continuously innovating and providing them with the best possible experience,” he said.

Nhamo added that EcoCash had enhanced security on the new app, having now included biometric identification to protect customers’ financial transactions.

“With fraud becoming increasingly sophisticated, we have incorporated biometric technology into the new EcoCash app to address that and provide an additional layer of security, over and above passwords and PINs numbers.

“This new technology enhances security and simplifies the user authentication process," he said.

Nhamo said the new app now empowered customers to conduct consolidated Bureau de Change services on their smartphones, such as exchanging USD for ZiG.

“This feature is designed to support the diverse needs of our customers, offering them a flexible and secure way to manage their finances,” he said.

Another addition to the new app is a feature that makes it easy for customers to send money to several recipients simultaneously.

This addition is perfect for businesses, organizations and individuals who need to make multiple payments quickly and efficiently, saving valuable time.

Nhamo said the new EcoCash App – already available for download on Google Play Store, Apple App Store, and Huawei’s AppGallery – will co-exist with the old app for the next three months before the latter is retired.

He said he hoped the three-month transition period would give customers enough time to ensure a smooth transition from the old app to the new.

Nhamo also highlighted the convenience of the new DSTv Payments feature, which eliminates the hassle of traditional payment methods.

The launch of the new app coincides with EcoCash’s popular Chakachaya paEcoCash promotion, which is running until July 25, 2024.

Nhamo said to encourage increased uptake of the new app, EcoCash was doubling points for customers who download and use the new app.

“We are also giving away exciting prizes, including smartphones and airtime, to customers who download the new app during the duration of the Chakachaya paEcoCash promotion,” Nhamo said.
