PH stuns host Mexico in Men's Softball World Cup

The Philippines pulled the rug from under Mexico, 3-1, for its first win in Group A of the WBSC Men's Softball World Cup at the Fernando Ortiz Stadium in Mexico on Friday.
The Cebuana Lhuillier-backed Blu Boys bowed to Dominican Republic, 2-5, and defending champion Australia, 4-3, in their first two games but kept its bid to make the final round alive with a resounding victory against the host country.
The Philippines banked on a stellar pitching performance by 18-year-old Jehanz Coro. who went the distance and allowed only three hits, one run, and three walks while striking out five batters.
Mark Sarmiento, on the other hand, was flawless at bat as he went 3-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. Melvin De Castro also scored a run for the visiting team.
Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (Asaphil) president Jean Henri Lhuillier expressed his pride with the team.
"I have always believed in the Blu Boys. Their win is a testament to their hard work, perseverance and dedication. I am incredibly proud of their performance today," he said.
The Philippines will face Venezuela and Czechia in back-to-back crucial games in Group A on Saturday.
