Queensland Fire Emergency Services fire investigator Daniel Rasmussen described the scene as 'traumatic', especially for first responders.
'When crews got here there was a very intense fire in the back unit,' Mr Rasmussen told the Courier Mail.
'Flames were coming out of every window and door so an aggressive attack had to be made with hose lines and breathing apparatus to make entry to the house.'
Police have confirmed the blaze is being treated as suspicious and declared the unit a crime scene.
An investigation has been launched to determine the source and origin of the blaze and whether Mr Carr and Ms Boyle were in a romantic relationship.
