Will NYC see the Northern lights Monday night?

The Northern Lights may appear in various areas of the Northern US tonight Millions of skygazers first witnessed the Aurora Borealis on May 10

The spectacular aurora borealis that millions of skygazers have witnessed will return tonight—but it may not be in New York.

The Northern Lights were seen throughout various parts of the US and Europe this weekend, and they could appear again tonight.

According to Forbes, the geometric storm may be visible tonight in Alaska, Canada, and the northern US.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) also indicated this morning that this prediction includes all states that border Canada in the northern US, including Wisconsin and New York.

Unfortunately, the probability of an aurora in New York has changed.

As of now, the NOAA's prediction indicates that the chance of Northern Lights being seen in the state tonight is slim to none.

The Northern Lights has been seen in several US states from May 10 to 12, including upstate New York. The lights are predicted to be visible again in states that border Canada

The Northern Lights were noticeable in the US due to the extreme solar flares that set off a storm and ignited the light show in the sky.

There were three findings of a G5 intensity from a geomagnetic storm, G5 being 'extreme' in energy.

The Kp index, which measures the intensity of geomagnetic storms over a specific time period, ranked Friday's storm and eight out of nine.

According to KING 5 News, a Kp in the range of 8 to 9 means that an aurora may be seen overhead from Northern US states.

NOAA's aurora forecast shows that the Kp range will be at around 4 tonight, which means there will be bright lights.

However, KING News indicated that a great chance of seeing the sky show in areas of the Northern US is if the Kp range is at least a 6 or 7.

CBS News pointed out that the geomagnetic storm is now a G3 and it is still considered a strong storm.

Skygazers in upstate New York were able to get another view of the Northern Lights last night, and based on the prediction, individuals in that New York area may be the ones who will have a slim chance of seeing the lights.

My favorite genre of tweet tonight: people who think they’re seeing the aurora in NYC but in fact are just seeing the lights from the Kosciuszko Bridge reflected in the clouds pic.twitter.com/gtpv65ECks

The Northern Lights were the most noticeable on Friday night in many north and south US states.

The brightness is highly noticeable primarily in northern latitude islands and countries, including Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, and Greenland.

However, thanks to the strongest solar storm in 21 years, social media flooded with photos taken of the Northern lights in states such as Maine, Connecticut, and Alabama.

Most New Yorkers that were not upstate missed out on witnessing the rare light show on May 10 due to cloudy skies.

Many of them may have even been confused as to what they saw due to X users being confused on what kind of light they witnessed in New York City on Friday.

'My favorite genre of tweet tonight: people who think they’re seeing the aurora in NYC but in fact are just seeing the lights from the Kosciuszko Bridge reflected in the clouds,' tweeted Rebecca Seidel on May 11.

Seidel's tweet has received less than 100 comments, but it has received nearly 1.5 million views since she posted it.
