Canucks fans flock to game 3 watch parties
Good evening and thanks for joining us. The Canucks are in Edmonton this evening for game three of their playoff series against the Oilers. The series is tied at one, a piece of barn burner, the series so far with highs and lows for players and fans alike. We have coverage tonight from our reporters in Vancouver and from downtown Edmonton where the game is being held. But first, let's go inside Rogers Arena for a live look inside. Now this is the third viewing party at the arena and this latest one against the Oilers selling out in 45 minutes, although it doesn't look like that right now. We're seeing a lot of empty seats, but I'm sure people are just making their way down a puck drop snot for another about 40 minutes or so. So again, tickets sold out pretty quickly, and they did release another block of seats late this afternoon. So if you were lucky enough, kudos to you for scooping up a ticket. But yeah, I'm sure Rogers Arena will be filled with a sea of blue in a few minutes. All right, so let's head back outside of Vancouver is hosting its first public viewing parties. Cassidy Moscone is at Oak Meadows Park tonight. And Cassidy, how's it looking there so far? You can depend on Esso. Well, things are looking pretty calm here at the moment. We have the Boston game blaring on the big screen behind us. I think everyone here is just really happy that the City of Vancouver finally gave in and that is to give them what most playoff team cities have, which is a public viewing party or playoffs in the park, as this one is being called. Let me step out of the way and I'll give you a shot of Oak Meadows Park. You can see the number of people here, we're guessing around 150, with more piling in every minute. We know that Vancouver City Mayor Ken SIM is due to arrive soon. It is a free and family friendly event and that's including dogs. It means that the entire event is an alcohol free zone. There are no food vendors on site either, so fans need to BYO, picnic blanket or chair. Getting here was quite the mission according to a lot of people we've spoken with. The closest Sky train station is about a 10 to 15 minute walk away. There are plenty of buses too though, and not a lot of parking. Typically there's heaps of street parking around this area, but a lot has been blocked off at tonight's event to reduce the number of cars. Some people were fairly happy to catch an Uber or take an Evo. Vancouver police are on site so a Park Rangers to make sure everyone is well behaved and so we can continue to see these public viewing events. The plan is to be back here again Tuesday night for the rest of the second round and if the Canucks make it through, or should I say when the Canucks make it through to the third round, a much bigger and licensed event is in the works at the P&E. Amazing. I'm looking forward to the game and we want to get in here early, get good, a good place. We would love if they did sell some beverages, but as I said, it's a nice day. Enjoy. Enjoy it when you so. The game is also being streamed at a number of community centres across Vancouver, but there's a catch only during business hours, so that's not going to work for a lot of them. For tonight's game, we're not quite sure how it will work for future games if they might kick some people out midway through play. We'll just have to wait and see. Well, maybe the fans can talk to Ken Simm about that tonight, Cassidy. Alright, thank you so much.
