Cicada influx attracting copperheads to area
Oh, you've likely heard that sound starting to pipe up all across the Carolinas. Well, those cicadas aren't just bringing the noise, they're also attracting predators that like to eat them. Now some of those include copperhead snakes. Now, the sound is irresistible to them, so they may see the snakes out, and you might see them out more often. The cicadas are crawling out under plants and up trees at night, and so the copperheads and things are out at the same time. They're going to go to those places where the cicadas are available, so they're a little bit more visible. They're going to be around the base of trees a little bit more than they normally would be. Well, copperheads are venomous but not aggressive. Now, experts say you can generally avoid a bite by watching where you walk, so you don't step on one. And if you do see a copperhead, the best thing to do is just leave them alone.
