American comedian Rob Schneider slammed 'cancel culture' on Thursday, claiming it has changed the world of comedy for the worse.

The Grown Ups star, 60, told Channel Seven's Sunrise that audiences are getting too 'uptight' about what you can joke about on TV - which is why he prefers stand-up comedy.

'People get uptight about stuff. That's why it is important I have a dark theatre to perform in where people can hear things they can't hear on TV,' he began.

The veteran actor is currently touring his stand-up comedy show across Australia, and will next perform at Melbourne's Athenaeum Theatre on June 6.

'The idea is to be able to express things and to let out, people can laugh at things. It's not attacking anybody, though some people claim it is.

'It is tough for now. But at the same time, any time people get uptight about something is an opportunity, you have to get to it in a way the audience can laugh.'

Schneider rose to fame in the early '90s as a cast member on the iconic American sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live.

He later went on to co-star with Adam Sandler in many comedy movies, including The Water Boy, Big Daddy and Little Nicky.

Elsewhere in the interview, Rob dropped a major bombshell about the upcoming sequel to Sandler's hit 1996 film Happy Gilmore.

During the interview, the breakfast show's co-host Shirvo asked Rob: 'Happy Gilmore 2 is happening. Are you going to be in it?'

'Yes, I will be playing Happy Gilmore. Not Adam,' Rob joked, before adding: 'No I'm just kidding'.

Rob also revealed how Adam called him from Italy and told him he was considering a sequel to the iconic film.

'What made him want to do it?' Matt asked.

'I just think he just can't stop making movies. He doesn't know what else to do with his life,' Rob joked.
