UK weather: Maps show 25C Spanish heat plume heading to Britain in days

Britain is set to sizzle in a 25C heat plume from Spain, according to new forecast maps.

Projections from WXcharts show an area of warm air moving over to the UK from the Mediterranean, bringing warmer weather from June 4. The mercury could reach a balmy 25C in parts of the country, with temperatures rising across the board for at least 48 hours.

The early signs of some summery weather will no doubt to come as a welcome relief to many, after multiple days of rain marked a wet end to May. Things are expected to stay that way today after southern Scotland was placed on alert for thunderstorms, while another 10 areas across the UK also remained under an Environment Agency flood warning late last night.

Weather forecast map for June 4

The new WXcharts maps however show a shift in the weather coming from June 4, as temperatures begin to climb and clearer conditions emerge. London and parts of southern England will see highs of 21C, reports the Express.co.uk, as will Manchester and Newcastle. In Wales the mercury is forecast to rise to 20C, and 17C in lowland Scotland and Northern Ireland. This hot weather will carry into Thursday June 6, when Apple Weather is predicting temperatures could hit 25C in the south.

Hopes are also being raised of a prolonged spell of warm weather throughout June, after forecasters spotted a high pressure system incoming. In a recent update, Exacta Weather forecaster James Madden said: "The start of June and the meteorological summer are now looking more favourably warm to hot for many to kick off summer this weekend. Additionally, there are also some early indicators for this high-pressure area to become more extensive than at present and possibly extend beyond this weekend and early next week, dissipating any cool, cold, and unsettled projections for that period further."

In the meantime, the Met Office forecast bright spells on Wednesday, accompanied by sometimes heavy showers. Hail and thunder are also likely in areas which see rain. From Thursday to Saturday, Britain will see some sunny intervals and temperatures around average for this time of year, though showers are set to continue.

UK weather forecast:

Wednesday:

Wednesday should be a brighter day, though there will be a mix of sunshine and showers. Some of the showers will be heavy with the risk of hail and thunder.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Sunshine and showers for Thursday, once again some heavy with hail and thundery. Slowly becoming drier through Friday and into Saturday, with increasing amounts of sunshine. Temperatures near average.
