Basketball controversy magnet Liz Cambage gets tattooed on a VERY unusual and painful place on her body

Former Opal has been playing in China Has returned and is back on social media Reveals her insane new tattoos

Aussie basketball star Liz Cambage is back on social media and turning heads once again, this time with a bizarre choice for her new tattoos.

Cambage has just finished a playing stint in China, where western social media platforms are outlawed.

She wasted no time connecting with her 1.2million followers recently, sharing video and images of her getting fresh ink in a very bizarre place: the palms of her hands.

She had 'Memento Morí' tattooed on her left palm, which is Latin for 'remember that you have to die', and 'Memento Vivere' inked on her right palm, which means 'remember that you must live'.

Tattoos on the palms of hands are rare due to the high pain level and rapid skin cell regeneration leading to faster fading on that part of the body.

Cambage recently completed a three-month stint with Sichuan Yuanda women's team based in the Chinese city of Chengdu, earning more than $1million for a cameo in the local league.

She also posted an image of herself getting a beauty treatment on her face with the caption: '@ecambage the WINNER is back with a championship! Geting beautified for the next chapter'.

The former Australian Opal has courted controversy her entire career, including in her recent stint in China where she was ejected from a game following two flagrant fouls that took out opposing players.

That cameo came after Cambage was exiled from the Australian team and blocked from playing at the Paris Olympics by Opals coach Sandy Brondello.

The tension between Cambage and her former Opals teammates dates back to 2021 when she was accused of racially abusing Nigerian players in a pre-Olympics warm-up game, claims she denied.

'I'm pretty annoyed at all the fake news and the lies I'm seeing floating around in news articles and being shown and being asked about,' she said in an Instagram video at the time.

She also departed the Los Angeles Sparks in the WNBA in acrimonious circumstances after footage emerged of Nigerian teammates rolling their eyes at her during a media conference.

In 2021 Cambage engaged in a war of words with Connecticut Sun coach Curt Miller who was calling for a foul to be called on the Australian.

Cambage would later post on Instagram: 'I will never let a man disrespect me, ever, especially a little white one'.

In that same year Cambage accused the Australian Olympic Committee of whitewashing and a lack of diversity following a pre-Games photo shoot for the Australian Olympic Committee's underwear sponsor.

'If I've said it once I've said it a million times, how am I meant to represent a country that doesn't even represent me. Australia, wake the f*** up,' Cambage said on Instagram.

The centre has also had a long-running battle with former NBA and Australian Boomers big man Andrew Bogut on social media.

'Mr Bogut's obsession with me so strange, it's been like 10 years of you speaking on my name … if you want me just say that,' Cambage in 2021.
