Hygiene expert reveals simple hacks for storing winter clothes that will keep them MOTH-FREE and prevent them from smelling - including a thrifty DOLLAR STORE find to help transform your closet

A hygiene expert has revealed how you can keep your winter clothes from starting to smell as you're storing them during the summer months - sharing a list of cheap and simple hacks that will keep your fashion favorites pristine while they're tucked away.

The tips were shared in a video this week by Mary Futher, who goes by the username Madame Sweat on social media.

Futher, who is the founder of clean body care brand Kaia Naturals, often takes to TikTok to share her hygiene and cleaning tips.

In the clip, Futher shared her affordable and simple tips for keeping sweaters fresh for months, so they don't stink when you inevitably pull them out next November.

The expert, who has over 816,000 followers on the app, revealed her favorite purchase is at the Dollar Store, where she picks up 'nifty little storage bags.'

She showed a picture of the clear plastic bags, which were from the brand Essentials and labeled as heavy duty storage bags.

'They're very inexpensive, and they fit in drawers,' she promised.

Once you have the bags, you'll also want to get some wool dryer balls, which retail for as little as $5, to stick in the storage containers.

She also offered another hack to keep everything smelling fresh - and to avoid any critters.

'To keep the moths away, get yourself lavender, mint, or thyme essential oil, apply to the wool ball, tuck it in with the dollar store storage bags, and you won't have stinky, stale smelling sweaters or big moth holes,' Futher guaranteed.

Her helpful video reached over 11,000 views since it was posted.

That wasn't the only winter storage hack she's shared with her followers this spring.

In another clip, posted in late April, Futher gave another suggestion for storing winter clothes - and it's one that she says no one tells you.

In another clip posted on TikTok, Madame Sweat shared a tip for storing wool, cashmere, silk, angora and fur in the winter

'This tip is specifically for wool, cashmere, silk, angora, or fur,' she began.

Futher explained it's best to clean those materials before storing them, because moths 'love dirty fabrics.'

She said that moths specifically look for materials that have various stains from body oil and food.

'Larvae that they're about to lay love to feed off those ingredients,' she explained.

'If you're putting away your wool winter coat dirty, you're just giving the moths something for their children to eat.'

In the comments section of the post, some users commented that they had already taken the expert's advice.

'Thank you for reminding me!! Gonna wash my jumpers today, and I've just put fresh moth repellers in my wardrobe all ready for the spring!!" one person wrote.

Another shared, 'I was just putting together a cedar chest for all of this and laundered everything this morning.'
