CBSA workers vote in favour of strike mandate

OK, so there could be some disruptions at border crossings this summer as a possible strike loomed. CBSA workers have voted 96% in favor of a strike mandate. Our Craig mommy joins us now live from the airport with more on this. And Craig, this could impact travelers. Well Linda, this could mean disruptions for airports and land crossings for the upcoming summer travel season. Now, international travelers heading through security at YYC could eventually feel the impact of long wait times if the strike goes ahead and goes on too long. Now there are there is no word on when that strike action would take place, but it would be as early as next month. According to the Public Service Alliance of Canada, the last time the two sides met was at a Public Interest Commission hearing back on April 22nd. The union says their key demands revolve around fair wages in line with other law enforcement across Canada. Remote work options and better retirement benefits. 25 and out of something that we were promised that in the last round would be brought to the Pension Advisory Board, which has happened. They've crunched the numbers and it's been advised that we get it. It's sitting on the Treasury Board president's desk now collecting dust and has been there for a long time. And yet we wait. This is something that could be enacted this afternoon if they had the will to do it. And it's simply not. We know when it comes to CBSA, the work they do is extremely important and extremely difficult, and we recognize the hard work that they do every way, every day. Keeping Canada safe at our borders, but we also know that the best labour agreements happen at the bargaining table and that's exactly where the ministers are focused and we will continue to do that. Now, according to Weber, so far there's been little to no movement at the bargaining table and says there has been no salary offered. Mediation between the two sides is expected to take place on June 3rd. Craig, mommy live at the airport for us tonight. Thanks, Craig.
