Afghanistan all-rounder Rashid Khan has jetted off to the West Indies to feature in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup starting on June 2. Rashid, who recently wrapped up his Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign, is set to lead the Afghan brigade at the multi-nation event. Before boarding the West Indies-bound flight, Rashid clicked a picture with his national teammates Noor Ahmed and Mujeeb Ur Rahman at the airport premises. He later dropped the photo of X (formerly Twitter), sharing details about the trip. “En-route T20 World Cup. Excited to head to West Indies and get going,” Rashid wrote in the caption.

The Afghanistan captain was captured in an all-black ensemble, rocking a casual, oversized T-shirt and loose-fitted denim jeans. He smilingly posed for the camera while holding his luggage. Noor Ahmed and Mujeeb Ur Rahman also picked comfortable outfits for the journey. Like Rashid, Noor also wore a back t-shirt which he paired with blue cargos. Mujeeb, on the other hand, donned a white shirt and navy track pants.

After the post surfaced on the internet, many Afghanistan fans jumped into the comment section wishing Rashid Khan and Co. the very best for the T20 World Cup campaign. One of them wrote, “All the best to Rashid Khan and the entire Afghanistan team for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.”

On the Afghan squad, another fan commented, “Team Afghanistan is extremely talented, fighting against all odds, the warriors of Afghanistan are playing best, throwing challenge to opposition and clinching victories, of course under the excellent guidance of Skipper Rashid Khan, fly high and achieve every success.”

One user was quick to brand Rashid Khan as “the king” of Afghanistan cricket. “Best of luck for the tournament, King,” he wrote.

Another fan showed his trust in the trio of Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmed and Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

“Best of luck to you and the team. Go and get them!” read a comment.

Rashid Khan’s campaign in IPL 2024 ended early after his team Gujarat Titans was eliminated from the league stage. The former champions managed to claim only five wins in the tournament, finishing eighth in the points table. Rashid also failed to showcase his A-game across departments. He scalped only 10 wickets while aggregating 102 runs in 12 games in the T20 extravaganza.

Noor Ahmad also failed to impress this season, picking just eight wickets for the Gujarat-based side. Meanwhile, Mujeeb Ur Rahman hasn’t featured in the franchise competition since 2021.

In the T20 World Cup, Afghanistan have been drawn in Group C alongside New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Uganda and co-hosts the West Indies. They will first play a couple of warm-up matches against Oman on May 29 and Scotland on May 31 before going into the main event. The Rashid Khan-led Afghanistan will begin their World Cup campaign with a match against Uganda on June 5 at the Providence Stadium.
