Brits flock to African city rivalling party capital Magaluf with £1 beer, beautiful beaches and 30C sun all year

Zanzibar, in Tanzania, has been dubbed by Brits as the new 'Magaluf' party town 'Up-and-coming' Zanzibar has seen 83% rise in bookings among tourists in 2024

A picturesque East African city is emerging as the new party hotspot for British tourists seeking sun, sand and £1 beers.

Zanzibar, the stunning island paradise in Tanzania, has even been compared to the new 'Magaluf' party town by holidaymakers who can enjoy turquoise water and nightclubs from just £6.50pppn.

With its pristine beaches, affordable drinks, and year-round tropical climate, the stunning island paradise has swiftly gained popularity for those in search of a vibrant nightlife scene and breathtaking natural beauty.

According to recent statistics by Luxury tour operator Scott Dunn, 'up-and-coming' Zanzibar has experienced an astonishing 83% surge in bookings among its wealthy clientele.

Its sharp rise in tourism comes as popular European holiday destinations, such as Lanzarote and Amsterdam, crack down on rowdy behaviour and are asking boozy Brits to 'stay away.'

However, there is a particular part of the island that isn't the reserve of the well off and where British tourists are flocking in record numbers: the main town of Zanzibar City.

One of the key attractions drawing British tourists to Zanzibar City is its unbeatable drink deals.

Not only can you get pints from as little as £1.06, according to PintPrice, but Hikers Bay says you can get a meal in an affordable restaurant in the city from as little as £3.84.

There are also affordable prices on accommodation options, with one budget double room for two adults, found by Daily Star on booking.com, amounting to just £13 per night - that's a cool £6.50 per person.

There are many bars, clubs and restaurants where Brits have been partying the night away, as well as exploring historical sites such as Stone Town - the birthplace of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury.

From snorkeling in crystal-clear waters of the Indian Sea to exploring historical towns, visitors to Zanzibar are spoiled for choice when it comes to leisure activities and cultural immersion.

The nation also boasts the famous Serengeti National Park - home to safari's big five' lions, leopards, elephants, buffalos and rhinos - as well as Africa's highest mountain, Kilimanjaro.

Moreover, Zanzibar's idyllic beaches and consistently warm temperatures, averaging around 30C year-round, provide the perfect backdrop for unforgettable holiday experiences.

Scott Dunn advised: 'November to March is when you’ll enjoy a less crowded safari as this tends to be the green season.

'Rainfall turns the landscape into a lush green and this is when you are most likely to see newborn animals.'

With flights on Skyscanner available for as little as £378 for a round trip, Zanzibar is poised to remain a top choice for travelers seeking an affordable yet unforgettable holiday for years to come.

Meanwhile, Brits are being warned about a little-known rule that could turn a dream Spanish holiday into a nightmare.

In Benidorm, a new rule affects the place holidaymakers will spend the most time while abroad - the beach.

Time restrictions mean that if you're caught swimming in the sea between midnight and 7am, you'll be at risk of being fined between €750 and €1,200 (£641.71 to £1,026.73).
