Plane passenger reveals how she got 'petty revenge' on fellow traveler who kept 'violating her privacy' by reaching across her to close window shade

A plane passenger has revealed how she sought 'petty revenge' on a fellow flyer who kept reaching over her to put the window shade down without asking.

The unnamed passenger took to Reddit to rant about the woman sitting next to her in the middle seat, detailing how she tried to take over control over the window, despite the fact that she was sitting in the seat next to it.

The jet-setter's story reignited the ongoing discussion about airplane etiquette - just days after a plane passenger was left horrified by a canoodling couple on a flight and another prompted fury for propping her feet on a fellow traveler's seat.  

In a Reddit thread titled, 'Petty Revenge,' she slammed the anonymous woman who was on her flight for 'violating his privacy' - adding that she made sure to tell her how she felt at the end of the flight.

She titled the post: 'Person next to me on a plane kept violating my personal space.'

'I was flying in the window seat, because I like looking out the window. The woman sitting next to me reached in front of me multiple times to close the window shade. She never asked me, she just reached directly in front of me to close the shade. I would immediately reopen it, and a few minutes later she would reach in front of me again to close it.

'It was a noon domestic short haul flight, so no reason to need darkness in the middle of the day. And absolutely no excuse for violating my personal space multiple times without asking me or acknowledging me or treating me like a human in any way,' she explained.

In hopes the woman in the middle seat would stop messing with the window, she turned on the reading light and point towards her direction and began reading.

'So I pulled out my book and turned on the reading light, despite there being ample natural light from the open window for me to read. I then positioned my hands in such a way that my watch would reflect the reading light directly into her eyes.

'I read like that for an hour, jiggling my hand the entire time, so it would shine the light back and forth across her eyes and be super distracting and annoying,' she added.

When the flight landed, she made it very clear that she didn't appreciate her attitude and behavior during the flight and snapped back at her.

She said: 'Once we landed and she took her headphones off, I turned to her and said "next time you fly, book a window seat if you want to control the window. Or at least treat me like a human and ask me before you violate my personal space. What you did is unbelievably rude."

'She looked SO OFFENDED. And naturally she walked two mph. Being a city walker, I easily got in front of her, then once we were on the moving walkway I stopped immediately in front of her. Did the same on the escalator to the curb, before flipping her off the entire way to my ride.'

One person said: 'I’m with you. As far as I’m concerned, whoever has the window seat controls the shade.'

Someone else wrote:  'Agreed. Also just really simple to ask if someone can shut it or partially shut it. They don’t have to by any means but just a simple question is polite.'

Another user added: 'Definitely, unless the sun is absolutely blinding you. In which case you just ask politely. The sense of entitlement so many people have these days is shocking.'

One user commented: 'Window gets to control the window. Aisle has more room. Middle gets the arm rests.'

Another user said: 'In what universe does anyone touch the window, let alone reach across you multiple times without asking? Seriously, I think people leave their brains at home when they travel, it’s just baffling.'

This isn't the first time fliers have sparked furious debates over airplane etiquette.

Just a few weeks ago, a frequent flier sparked uproar after showing off a dangerous traveling hack that saw her wearing her seatbelt around her ankles in a bid to sit more 'comfortably' during her flight.

In the past, many passengers have also questioned whether you should switch seats while traveling if someone asks you to.

In December, a frequent flier issued a PSA to fellow travelers about seat swapping after he found himself in a nightmare experience that saw him forced to move five times when he begrudgingly gave up his spot to another passenger.

The unknown man took to Reddit to recount his seat swap story that 'permanently changed [his] mind on ever being nice and trading seats with someone.'

Another frequent flier previously revealed she refused to switch her window seat with an 'entitled' passenger who wanted to sit next to his wife.

The unnamed woman took to Reddit to share how she declined to move to a middle seat during an 11-hour flight from New York to Cairo, Egypt, so the man sitting next to her could sit beside his wife.

The anonymous woman shared her story on the social media platform as a way to rant about the man on the Entitled People subreddit, prompting others on the web to slam the man for asking someone else to switch to a lower-quality seat so he could be happy.

The denial comes months after one man sparked furious debate when he refused to give up his first-class seat for his boss, despite using his own credit card points to do so.

In the past, DailyMail.com's Jaci Stephen even offered up her view, and confessed that she 'absolutely refuses' to swap seats, no matter how angry the passenger requesting to switch may get.
