Luke Littler hit a stunning nine-dart finish on the way to winning his first Premier League Darts title at the O2 Arena in London.

The 17-year-old advanced to the final on Thursday night after a dominant 10-5 victory against Michael Smith in the semi-final and continued to impress shortly afterwards.

Against Luke Humphries, Littler stepped up and hit the impressive nine-darter to take a 6-5 lead in the showpiece event, sending a record 14,000-strong crowd into pandemonium.

In doing so he became the first player to throw a nine-dart finish in the Premier League final since Phil Taylor did it twice in 2010.

In the 11th leg of the final, Littler hit back-to-back 180s before checking out on 141 with a treble 20, treble 19 and a double 12.

'The Pele of darts. What a joke of a player,' one fan said following his nine-darter.

Another claimed there were 'no words to describe this kid anymore',  while another insisted that 'ridiculous' Littler was 'unplayable'.

One fan couldn't believe what they had just witnessed, saying: 'I said I refuse to be surprised by Littler anymore and then he does that.'

Littler then held his nerve to dispatch Humphries 11-7, the man who beat him in the World Championship final earlier this year.

His triumph on Thursday means Littler scoops the £275,000 prize on yet another brilliant night in the teen sensation's early career.

Victory for 'The Nuke' continues an amazing story which began when he burst on to the scene at Alexandra Palace over Christmas and he has since gone on to transcend the sport.

Fans flocked to social media to heap praise on the 17-year-old after his nine-dart finish

Twelve months ago he was sitting his GCSEs; now he is one of the most famous sports stars in the country.

And he is backing it up on the oche, following up titles in the World Series and European Tour with a first major triumph.

He was the best player throughout the tournament, topping the 16-week league phase, having been handed a wildcard entry into the event due to his performance at Ally Pally.

Critics questioned whether he was ready for the challenge and he proved them all wrong.

'One thing I just wanted to say, to all the doubters, 'Hello!'' he said. 'I've just picked up this, you're not doubting me any more.'

Humphries said: 'I was trying to stick in there, there was a massive breeze on stage all night and it is so hard to deal with.

'He is a fantastic player, he really is. I think me and Luke are the two greatest players in the world at the moment. We are going to have many battles. He deserves to be Premier League champion.'
