Quads in the family: Alberta cousins are both moms of multiples
So when did you first get the feeling that, hey, this may not be a regular pregnancy? I started to feel more nauseous and more tired than my first pregnancy. I was getting blood work done to check my HCG levels, and they were just off the chart. So we got into that first ultrasound and expecting maybe at most twins found immediately 4 sacks right away. Was it how I would expect that moment to be? Oh, there's 10, there's another, oh, there's another and one more. The sonographer had never seen quadruplets herself, of course, so she was really quiet throughout. I had to interrupt at one point and say, can you please just confirm what we're looking at here? And she said, Yep, for now we see up to 4 fetuses. And that's when, thank goodness, I was laying down already. My husband was sitting down. We would have fallen down for sure. It was shocking. So how have things changed or progressed since that very shocking moment? So right from then we walked out of that ultrasound. With just so many questions and frankly a lot of fear, we knew immediately that this was going to be a really high risk pregnancy. And we still don't know exactly quite the genetic makeup. Whether we're carrying two sets of identical twins or fraternal or a combination of identical or fraternal, we'll find out what after birth. And I understand too, what makes this even more miraculous or interesting is that you actually have a cousin, a second cousin, who's also got a set of quadruplets of their own, right? You bet. She's the first person that popped into my mind as soon as we heard Four Feet. It says they were the last set of quadruplets that were born in Alberta. They just turned 8 this month. I think what I really got from Bethany is just a lot of reassurance. She's got four healthy babies and they did great. They spent very little time in the NICU and it was just something that I kept holding on to knowing, like, if that can happen to her, maybe it could happen to me and this could be good too.
