Bills QB Josh Allen Scouts Curtis Samuel: 'A Lot of Speed!'
The Buffalo Bills receiver room has undergone a significant makeover this offseason, with Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis moving on. But former Washington Commanders receiver Curtis Samuel has come the other way.
Samuel, a seven-year veteran of the league, joins a Bills offense spearheaded by Josh Allen and hopes to be a part of something special in Buffalo.
However, this is a new team, and Samuel has to get acclimated to his new surroundings, which has been a little easier due to his previous work with offensive coordinator Joe Brady during his time in Carolina.
For Allen, Samuel is already developing into one of his favorite targets as OTAs continue.
“A lot of speed,” Allen said of Samuel. “We’re going to ask him to do a lot of different things for us. He brings an element of speed, an element of toughness, but he’s very smart football player too. I've enjoyed getting to know him, he’s one of the locker room guys we can talk with and hang out with. His mindset’s been very good since he’s been here. I’m excited for it, he’s been showing some flashes and I love throwing to him."

Samuel comes into an offense that will be a receiver-by-committee in 2024 with Marquez Valdes-Scantling, rookie Keon Coleman, Mack Hollins, Chase Claypool, and Khalil Shakir.
With plenty of mouths to feed, Allen will have to spray the ball around to keep everyone happy, but not having a genuine No. 1 receiver might prove fruitful for Buffalo.
Samuel was a solid contributor in his last two seasons for the Commanders, catching 60+ passes and posting 600+ yards and four touchdowns in each season. That type of production is needed in Buffalo now that Diggs and Davis are no longer on the roster.
The former second-round pick hasn't set the NFL alight yet, but in Buffalo, we imagine he will get plenty of chances to do so and with his chemistry with Allen already in good shape, maybe Samuel could be the ace up Allen's sleeve in 2024.
