Channel 4 Escape to the Chateau's Dick and Angel Strawbridge make surprise TV return after axe

Dick and Angel Strawbridge are set to make a return to Channel 4 despite their leaked tirade with a show producer.

The TV couple welcomed viewers into their homes for years as they renovated a dilapidated French chateau. They starred on Channel 4 series Escape to the Chateau for nine seasons since 2015 as well as spin-off shows. Channel 4 told the Mirror last year that they had decided to part ways with Dick and Angel "following a review" after years of working on the hugely successful show together.

The decision came amid claims they 'bullied' producers whilst filming, but Dick and Angel insisted there are 'two sides to every story'. A leaked audio clip saw Angel reportedly launch a 'foul mouthed rant' at a producer. However, it has been reported the duo will be back on Channel 4 with a new series.

They will star in Dick and Angel's Secret France, which sees them explore the side of France few tourists get to see. According to reports, the couple's show will hit screens on Sunday June 2 at 8pm. "Dick and Angel had filmed this series before the damming recording of Angel was leaked last year," a source told The Sun.

"Despite cutting ties with the Strawbridges, it was always the intention that execs would broadcast the show at a later date. Channel 4 have pulled back on publicising the series and haven't changed their position on working with Dick and Angel in the future after their internal review was completed."

However, a spokesperson for Dick and Angel told The Mirror: "From my perspective, Dick & Angel are delighted that the show will broadcast on Channel 4 next Sunday, 2nd June, and we have been working alongside the Channel 4 press team. Dick & Angel announced last night on social media that the show will be aired, and they have been swamped with positive messages from happy fans. It wouldn't make commercial sense for the Channel to pull back on publicising the series, so it sounds like a rumour."

Dick and Angel have not been on screens since late 2022, when their hit series drew to a close. Since then, the pair have focused on other projects, including their own YouTube channel, a book and a UK tour. The couple were axed by Channel 4 following an independent investigation into their conduct on the show after production company Two Rivers Media raised concerns.

In the leaked recording, Angel could allegedly be heard calling a producer a "f***ed up little c**t." A representative for Channel 4 told the Mirror at the time: "Following a review we have taken the decision to not work with Dick and Angel on any new productions in the future." Two Rivers Media also confirmed that they won't be working with the couple as they told us: "We can confirm that we will no longer work with Dick and Angel and cannot comment further at the moment."

The couple later counterclaimed that in December of 2022, they made a decision to stop working with the broadcaster. In a statement, they said: "We know there are lots of stories in the press right now. It's not worth us even trying to comment or give context, because anything can be made into a good headline. We understand. There are two sides to every story and from the incredible support we have received, most of you know that."

Dick and Angel made an appearance on Lorraine last year where they addressed the reports. He said: "It's interesting because we were on Lorraine before Christmas [2022], explaining the end of the nine series. As a family, we made a decision that last year was going to be the finale of Escape to the Chateau so we finished. With that, we told everybody at the beginning of the year. That's now nearly two years ago now, everyone's known it was finishing.

"So when the stories sort of came and people started talking about the end of what we were doing, it wasn't news, it was something that had happened a long time in the past. We made the decision just not to get involved in any of the conversations." Angel added: "Our [late] Queen said: 'Never complain, never explain!' You know, I think that was just the best way because for us, none of it made sense. We had made that family decision a long time ago that it was the right time that Escape to the Chateau had come to its natural end."

The Mirror has contacted Dick and Angel's representative for comment as well as Channel 4.
