Justin Long talks his touching 2022 reunion with ex Drew Barrymore on her talk show: 'I have such deep affection and always root for her'

Justin Long opened up about his touching 2022 reunion with ex Drew Barrymore.

The duo were in an on-off romantic relationship from 2007 to 2010 but reunited on her talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show, two years ago in a sweet moment.

Speaking on Jesse Ferguson's podcast Dinner's On Me, Long, 45, admitted the last time he saw Barrymore before the show was before the pandemic.

'We saw each other a couple years ago. I was single, and we had that moment that we were trying to define what moving forward in each other's lives, because we have so much love for each other,' Justin explained. 'And at the end of the day, we are dear friends.'

'And when you're with Drew, she is so hyper-present and loving. But it's not a schtick — it's not an act,' he added. 'So being on her show was that experience and the reminder of that, and how just wonderful that glow feels.'

He admitted he nearly forgot cameras were rolling when he spoke with Drew.

'When I'm with her, there's such a there's such a familiarity that I swear to God, Jesse, I forgot the nature of the thing,' he added.

'And then you kinda snap out of it, or people have a reaction in the audience and you're reminded of like, "Oh, yeah, this is being filmed." And then it becomes a little strange,' he continued.

Jesse called one particular moment in Long's conversation with Barrymore 'really sweet'.

'Unless there's, like, some great offense, some criminal offense... I don't think love disappears,' Justin said.

'When I think of her, I have such deep affection and always root for her, and I just, I love her,' he added.

'But then when you snap back to outside of that bubble of kind of like a reality mixed with this televised thing, and then your reality outside of that is, well, now you have a partner in your life who is so loving and so accepting, it makes it so easy,' Justin, who was dating his now-wife Kate Bosworth at the time, said.

Justin also insisted the reunion wasn't 'weird' for his wife, who even sent Barrymore flowers following his appearance.

Justin was unaware of the gesture at the time. 'She's just that kind of thoughtful person and and and very, very evolved,' he said.

Barrymore couldn't hold back her emotions as she reunited with her ex Justin Long on her self-titled chat show back in 2022.

The actress wiped away tears as she was joined on The Drew Barrymore Show by the actor whom she used to date from 2007 until 2010, admitting she will 'always love' him.

The Charlie's Angels star embraced her ex, before the pair sat down in the studio to reminisce on the 'hedonistic' days of their relationship, saying they have 'been through so much together'.

Drew said: 'I will always love you so much. You were so important to me. I really am, I'm really grateful. I feel like we've been through so much together.

'When we used to talk and Facetime I was always like, "You know I've really grown up Justin." I always wanted to prove to you what a different person I was then when we dated.'

Justin replied: 'You were the best. That’s what we did, we laughed so much, like that was so much a part of our connection was that we love funny people, we enjoy laughing at all times.

'I love that we maintained our love because I know for my end it will never go away. I love you always. I am glad that we are able to still have that. I mean that. I’ll always love you.'

Drew added: 'We had so much fun but we were more hedonistic. A little more immature. We would get together, we would breakup. It was chaos, it was hella-fun.'
