Shark Tank's Barbara Corcoran shares her top tips for college grads - with surprising advice on paychecks

Shark Tank star Barbara Corcoran has warned college graduates not to be dazzled by big paychecks and to instead pursue jobs with bosses they can learn from.

The 75-year-old real estate mogul took to TikTok to share her three golden rules for Gen Z graduates entering the work force.

Corcoran told her 1.1 million followers the first is to not 'let your major define yourself,' adding they should 'try a lot on before you decide what you want to do with your life.'

She continued: 'Number two: don't take any job based on how much it pays but take it on one important thing: how much will it teach you?

'Because that will push you ahead. Number three: always choose the best boss. Having a good boss will have more to do with your happiness at work than actually what you do with your day.'

She finished the video by revealing the question job seekers should always ask at the end of the interview: 'Is there anything standing in the way of you hiring me?'

'That gives you a second shot at selling yourself,' she explained.

The question has gone viral many times on social media in different iterations, with users claiming it helped them to land every job they've applied for.

Corcoran has previously revealed that she had worked over 22 jobs by the time she turned 23 years old.

Last summer, she took to Instagram to write a letter to her 23-year-old self whereby she discussed having 'more bad bosses than anyone in the world.'

She added: 'That diner waitress job you’re busing tables for? It's gonna' change your life. Trust me on this.

'And when that handsome man offers you a ride home, you better take it!

'He will give you $1,000 to start your own real estate company. Yup! A thousand bucks!'

Corcoran has explained before that she met Ramone Simone in that job who, after a year of dating, gave her the money so they could launch a real estate brokerage company together.

Despite splitting seven years later, the Corcoran group continued and the entrepreneur sold it for $66 million 2001.

She has also repeatedly hailed the benefits of working service jobs, telling CNBC Make It that waitressing was 'the best way to learn about sales.'

'You learn more in waitressing than you can in any other job and I had every kind of menial job you can imagine,' she said at the time.

'What's great about being a waitress is you have your own territory. It's your responsibility. It's your table. It's your counter.

'The sugar's got to be filled. The ketchup's got to be topped off.'

Corcoran was born and raised in the factory town of Edgewater, New Jersey, where she says she and her nine siblings shared a room in her parents' two-bedroom flat.
