State Bersatu chief denies filing MACC report against Perlis MB
There are no hostilities between Perlis Bersatu and menteri besar Shukri Ramli, says the head of the party’s state chapter.
PETALING JAYA: Perlis Bersatu chief Abu Bakar Hamzah has denied claims that he was responsible for filing the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) report that led to a probe involving menteri besar Shukri Ramli and his son.
Abu Bakar said the claims which had circulated on social media were false, adding that he had lodged a police report to deny them, Berita Harian reported.
The Kuala Perlis assemblyman maintained that there were no hostilities between Perlis Bersatu and Shukri, and that the menteri besar has the backing of the state chapter.
“Our differences in opinion do not give the perception that we are not compatible, that’s just the personal opinion of others,” he said.
PAS leads the Perlis government, with Shukri serving as menteri besar.
Shukri’s son and four others were arrested last month in an investigation into the alleged falsification of documents related to claims for infrastructure projects worth RM600,000.
The five were released on MACC bail on April 26 while Shukri was detained by the anti-graft agency on April 31 before being released on MACC bail the same day.
The Perlis menteri besar had given a statement in connection with an alleged abuse of power case, spending nearly eight hours at MACC’s headquarters in Putrajaya.
There were also claims that five more Perlis assemblymen would be arrested by MACC, but these were later dismissed by chief commissioner Azam Baki as rumours.
