According to Iranian state news agency IRNA, the helicopter crashed on Sunday, May 19, at the Iran and Azerbaijan border.

Raisi and a group of dignitaries were returning from a ceremony for the opening of a dam at the country's border when the helicopter they were travelling in crashed upon landing in Varzaqan region.

"20 rescue teams and drones have been sent to the area, but due to the impassability of the area, its mountainous and forest conditions, as well as unfavorable weather conditions, especially heavy fog, the search and rescue operation will take time," IRNA reported.
