Sunil Chhetri | Legendary Sunil Chhetri's Glorious Career In Indian Blue | Football | N18V
It's not that I was feeling tired. It's not that I was feeling this or that when when the instinct came that it should be my last game, then I thought about it a lot. And eventually I I I came to this Indian football legend Sunil Chhetri shocked fans by announcing his retirement from international football. The FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Kuwait in Kolkata on the 6th of June will be his last, bringing an end to a glorious career of nearly two decades. Every training that I do with the national team, I just go and enjoy it. Man. I can feel that. I don't feel the pressure wherein this game demands pressure against Kuwait. We need the three points to qualify for the next round, Third round. It's hugely important for us, but in a very strange and nice way. I don't feel the pressure. Holding back tears, Chetri revealed the emotional reaction of his support system, his family, when he told them he planned to retire. So when I did decide that this is it, this is going to be my last game, I told it's a funny one. I told my mom, my dad and my wife, my family first. My dad was my dad was my dad. He was, he was normal. He was, he was relieved, happy, everything. But my mom and my my wife strangely started crying. And I told them you always used to bug me that there are too many games, there's too much of pressure when you watch me. And now that I'm telling you that you know I'm not going to play for my country anymore after this game. And even they couldn't, they couldn't express to me as to why they they burst into tears. The 39 year old striker made his international debut against Pakistan back in 2005 and scored his first goal for India in the very same match. He went on to score 94 goals for the country. He is also third in the list of goal scorers among active players, behind icons like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. He has helped the Indian Mens football team win the AFC Challenge Cup in 2008, the SAFF Championship in 2011 and 2015, the Nehru Cup in 2007, 2009 and 2012, as well as the Intercontinental Cup in 2017 and 2018. His decorated career saw him winning the AIFF Player of the Year a whopping 6 times. He has also received the Arjuna Award, the Padma Sri and became the first footballer to receive the Khel Ratna Shiri Sunil Chhetri. But with the accolades came a lot of heartbreak. In 2018, Chhetri made a public plea to fans to come to the stadium and watch games. This may have been one of Indian footballs saddest yet greatest moments, but today I'm making this video not for you guys. I'm going to speak, appeal and request all of you who did not come to to everyone who's not a football fan, please come and watch us. Two reasons. Number one, it's the best team in the world and #2, we play for our country. We'll make sure that once you come to watch us, you will not go the same person back home to all of you who are fans of big European clubs and support your European club with so much passion. And sometimes you guys think that the level is not same so why to waste your time? Agree the level is not the same, not even close. But with our desire and determination we'll make sure we'll try our best to make your time both to all of you who have lost hope or do not have any hope. Indiana football. I request you come and watch us in the stadiums. I mean, it's not fun to criticize or abuse on Internet. Come to the stadium, deal on our face, Scream at us, shout at us, abuse us. Who knows? One day, one day we might change you guys, you might start cherry for us. Please come. As he retires, Chetri will leave the scene as India's all time scorer and most capped player. Will I be sad after this? Of course. Do I feel sad sometimes every day because of this? Yes. Do I feel like the train? I'll miss the train and have to run and this is 20 days of training and it'll all be gone. Yes, it took time because the kid inside me, he never wants to stop if given a chance to play for his country, man. Never there hasn't been I've got I'm I'm I'm really fortunate in my life there has been so many amazing things that have happened to me. I practically live a dream but nothing comes close to to playing for a country. So the kid kept fighting and probably even in the future we'll keep fighting inside. I think the sensible, the matured player, a person inside knows it, knew it, that this is it, but it wasn't easy.
