NFL’s best revenge games in 2024 season: Saquon Barkley vs. Giants, Super Bowl LVIII rematch & more - NFL.com

Now, it was former Giants running back Tiki Barber who (jokingly?) said Saquon Barkley was dead to him after the star RB signed a big-money deal with the rival Eagles. I get it. There is no love lost between Giants and Eagles fans. It’s one of the most bitter rivalries in the NFL. But I actually think this was kind of a great move, and one that Giants fans shouldn’t be too upset about. Saquon played some fine football during his six seasons in New York, earning a healthy payday with a team that is still in its Super Bowl window (we hope, anyway). The Giants are in a spot where devoting big money to a running back isn’t the move. The Eagles, on the other hand, probably shouldn’t let their quarterback run for 15 touchdowns, so for them, this signing made a lot of sense. I understand that it’s disturbing for some to think of Saquon in an Eagles uniform, and that Giants fans will be upset when he has a Christian McCaffrey-like impact with their division rival. But dude is from Allentown, Pennsylvania, (fine, Whitehall Township) and should be allowed to go home. Plus, folks should blame the team that didn’t want to pay Saquon before getting mad at the player himself.

Judging overreactions to 2024 NFL schedule release - ESPN

The Eagles may well win the NFC East. Heck, they may well have it wrapped up by the time they face the Giants in Week 18. I’m just not imagining Barkley as the difference-maker so many seem to be assuming he will be this season. Only twice in his six-year career has Barkley made it through a full season without missing at least one game due to injury. And even if 2024 is the third such season for him, I believe the Eagles’ success is going to have a lot more to do with whether the passing game rebounds behind quarterback Jalen Hurts and his receivers. The Eagles also have some questions to answer along the offensive line, including how to replace longtime center Jason Kelce, who retired this offseason. Assuming Barkley can be the key player who elevates a team from good to great ignores the fact that he has not been that over six years in the NFL. Again, the Eagles may well be favored to win the division, but I find it hard to believe Kellen Moore’s offense is going to make a running back its focal point.

Pros and cons of the Eagles’ 2024 schedule - BGN

Getting back to last year’s Gauntlet for a second, it wasn’t just the opponents that made it tough. It was also the Eagles having to play three straight games at a rest disadvantage at one point (coming off MNF to play the Buffalo Bills, coming off SNF to play a San Francisco 49ers team coming off a mini-bye, playing a Dallas Cowboys team coming off a mini-bye). They don’t have to deal with a challenge like that this year. In fact, they don’t play a single team coming off their TNF mini-bye!

Eagles player review: OL Tyler Steen edition - PhillyVoice

In 2024, Steen is once again competing for the starting RG job with Jurgens taking over for Jason Kelce at center. He has two obvious challengers in free agent acquisition Matt Hennessy and rookie Trevor Keegan. He might also have to fend off free agent Mekhi Becton and rookie Dylan McMahon. More on that camp battle here. I thought Steen showed some promise, despite getting roasted by Parsons, who of course is one of the most athletic edge rushers ever. I would consider him the clear favorite for the starting RG job, but he certainly won’t just be handed the job.

More Roster Talk - Iggles Blitz

Josh Jobe. Jobe was a STs stud at Alabama. He has been a standout in the NFL as well. STs coordinator Michael Clay mentioned him as one of three key guys last week. Again, that isn’t something to take lightly. The problem is that Jobe has very little chance to make the team as a CB. There is better depth and corner and nickelback. Safety is a position where there isn’t great depth. According to his college bio, Jobe played CB at Bama and in high school. Could he move to safety? He can hit and tackle. He’s physical. It would make some sense to give him a chance to show what he can do. There is still plenty of depth at corner. We’ll see if the coaches give him a shot. I know Clay would love to have him make the team so he could continue to play STs.

Five Takeaways From the 2024 NFL Schedule Release - The Ringer

The Week 1 Slate Is Fun. Two stand-alone games to start the season are a treat. Rather than having just one debut matchup on Thursday night to kick off the season, the NFL is first giving fans Ravens at Chiefs, a rematch of last season’s AFC championship game (and a rematch of Justin Tucker vs. Patrick Mahomes) on Thursday, and then Packers-Eagles from São Paulo, Brazil, on Friday night. It will be the first of eight national games for the Chiefs this season. (Surely the NFL is hoping Taylor Swift will find time around her Eras Tour dates to show up and juice the ratings for those games.) The Friday game—the NFL’s first in Brazil—won’t kick off until 8:15 p.m. ET, but it will be worth staying up late for. A strong Jordan Love performance for the Packers coupled with any signs of disaster in Philadelphia in the first game of the post–Jason Kelce era would provide quite the narrative coming out of opening weekend.

Breaking down contract details for Eagles’ UDFA class of 2024 - NBCSP

All of these UDFA contracts are three-year deals that come with base salaries of $795K, $960K and $1.075M over the next three seasons. If any of these UDFAs play out their full three-year contracts, they would become restricted free agents after the 2026 season. Roseman agreed that it was surprising the Eagles didn’t draft an offensive lineman earlier than Round 5 and they didn’t end up taking an offensive tackle at all. So it isn’t surprising to see that the top two UDFAs in terms of guaranteed money are offensive tackles. They also didn’t address the TE position in the draft so seeing a tight end up there isn’t shocking either.

This stretch of games will decide the Cowboys’ season - Blogging The Boys

There’s one patch of games that will define the Cowboys’ postseason chances and the caliber of this team in their journey to a defense of their NFC East title, and a possible Super Bowl run. While it’s reasonable to believe that the make-or-break part of the year is at the tail end of the season with games against the Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before the finale at home against the Washington Commanders, the schedule right after their Week 7 bye through December 9th is brutal. It is where the Cowboys need to be locked in to survive the December surge before the playoffs.

New York Giants fans have mixed reactions to ‘Century Red’ uniforms, middling 2024 expectations - Big Blue View

We offered New York Giants fans polls on a pair of timely topics on Thursday — how they think the team will fare now that the 2024 NFL schedule is official and how they feel about the ‘Century Red’ throwback jerseys the team unveiled. The results don’t show a lot of positivity on either front. In our season-record poll, 40% (1,002) of 2,496 voters said the Giants would win eight or nine games. Another 37% (928) said the team would win six or seven games. A discouraged 13% (322) said the Giants would win five games or fewer. Only an optimistic 10% (244) thought the team could win 10 or more games.

Why the Slide? Iowa CB Cooper DeJean - Hogs Haven

We may never know how the Commanders had DeJean rated relative so Sainristil. But it appears that they ended up with a player that fits what they want to do on the field, with the character they are looking for to build a winning culture in the locker room. The trade back with the Eagles also allowed them to draft TE Ben Sinnott, as the first of three players they appear to have rated much more highly than the media. Peters seemed to acknowledge some nagging doubts about letting a quality player go to a division rival, but in the end, decided to make a move that was best for his team:

Even nuns think Harrison Butker’s commencement speech sucked - SB Nation

The NFL world has never, and I mean never, talked about Harrison Butker as much as we have this week. The commencement speech he gave at Benedictine College in Kansas was bad in myriad ways, and I hated it. But I’m actually not here to talk about why I hated it. I’m here to tell you that the Benedictine Sisters of Mt. St. Scholastica, a founding institution and sponsor of Benedictine College, also hated it and explained why in great detail.
