Son Heung-min urges Tottenham fans to get behind Ange Postecoglou after he slammed supporters for cheering on Man City against their own team to deny Arsenal of title

Ange Postecoglou fumed at his players and the club's fanbase on Tuesday nightSon believes the Australian is the right manager to guide Tottenham to successIAN LADYMAN: If I was a Spurs fan, I'd be worried about the way Ange Postecoglou is carrying himself - Listen to the It's All Kicking Off! podcast

Tottenham captain has called on fans and the club to get behind manager Ange Postecoglou.

The north London side suffered a 2-0 defeat by Manchester City on Tuesday night and Postecoglou delivered a damning assessment on those connected to Spurs.

The defeat ended their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season but ensured City will win the title ahead of rivals Arsenal if they beat West Ham on Sunday.

Son is confident Postecoglou is the man to guide Tottenham to glory despite their latest setback and has called for more unity within the club.

The forward told Evening Standard: 'We should understand it's the gaffer's first year and he brought so much positivity and different football'.

'I know it's early to say, but we've got to do so much better for next season, because I still believe he can bring so much success to the club.

'I'm all in. I'm loving the way he wants to play. It's the first time I've experienced it.

'Everybody — the club, the players, also the fans — everybody has to step up, because we have to be all together in this. He's definitely shown he can bring success to the club.'

Postecoglou suggested that Spurs require a major mentality shift if they are to close the gap between themselves and the country's elite after the defeat against City.

He believes the build-up to City's visit, the rivalry with Arsenal dominating thoughts around the club, has shone a light on the problems he faces as manager.

Incensed by the attitude towards the fixture as some Spurs fans openly said they hoped their own team lost to prevent Arsenal claiming a first title for two decades.

'The last 48 hours have revealed that the foundations are fairly fragile,' Postecoglou said.

''It just means I've got to go back to the drawing board with some things. It's outside (the club), inside, everywhere. It's been an interesting exercise.'

At one point in the match, Postecoglou appeared to exchange words with a supporter from his technical area.

Son insists he and his team-mates went out to do their best, saying:'As players, we all wanted to do our best for the club and for us [against City].

'We really didn't care about anything else. We only concentrated on what's best for us, for the team.

'The players, the staff who have had so many sessions, so many games, so much travelling, we just wanted to do the best for them. We didn't want to do anything else.'

Son praised Stefan Ortega, who saved a pivotal chance which could have put Tottenham level

Son had the chance to put Tottenham level when he went through on goal in the 85th minute and was denied by Stefan Ortega before Erling Haaland sealed the win for Pep Guardiola's men to put them on the verge of sealing a historic fourth consecutive title.

'I'm also human. The keeper made a really good decision and made himself really big,' said the South Korean forward.

'But I take the responsibility not to score that big chance for the team, because the team was working really hard and trying to get a good result.'
