The Duchess of Edinburgh appeared in high spirits as she tried out an adaptive tricycle during a visit to Greater Manchester.

The royal, 59, was visiting The Seashell Trust in Cheadle, which supports children and young adults with complex learning difficulties, disabilities, and additional communication needs from across the UK.

The Duchess beamed as she spoke to staff, students, guests and children at the trust, delighting the crowds of people who had turned out for her visit.

Children at the trust were overjoyed at her visit, where Sophie showcased her natural ease with youngsters.

The royal also tried out a tricycle from Ice Trikes Limitless, which provides bikes for both able bodied and adaptive use.

Sophie seemed to be getting to grips with the controls as she joined others on a race track at the venue.

The mother-of-two looked effortless chic in a white Alzuzarra Indiana double-breasted blazer with patterned Roland Mouret Ward trousers.

To accessorise, the stylish royal added a pair of silver drop earrings and her maple leaf pendant by Maison Birks that has been in her personal collection since 2013.

She completed her look with her signature twisted up-do style and added white leather espadrille shoes.

Elsewhere, Sophie listened in to a music class at the Seashell Class and used a spade to turn the earth at the new college construction site.

The tricycles are ideal for riders who have a disability, confidence or balance issues that prevents them riding a traditional bike.

They can help non-ambulatory people experience the joy of cycling and include benefits such as balancing skills, social interaction, usual visual perception, strengthening the lower extremeties.

On Tuesday Sophie joined her husband Prince Edward to become the first members of the royal family to visit a new memorial statue of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh were on a visit to Oakham, Rutland in the East Midlands.

The royal couple went to the town's library, which is now home to the first memorial statue of the late Queen, Edward's mother, which features her beloved corgis at her feet.

Edward and Sophie were the first royals to see the eye-catching seven-foot bronze statue, and the Duchess couldn't resist petting the corgis as she spoke to crowds.

The couple took a moment to look at the statue in silence and take in the meaningful tribute to the late monarch.

She looked as elegant as ever as she twisted her blonde tresses into a stylish updo, and added a tangerine-coloured bag to accessorise.

Meanwhile her husband Edward, 60, also dressed smartly for the occasion, adding a tweed blazer to his look.
