DNC Releases Ad Naming Trump 'Biggest Threat to Democracy'
Following the decision from the U.S. Supreme Court granting presidents legal immunity for "official" actions, the Democratic National Committee released a hard-hitting ad in several swing states calling out Donald Trump as the number one threat to American democracy.
The ad centers around the CNN presidential debate last week, where Trump repeatedly refused to say if he would recognize the results of the 2024 election as free and fair if he were to lose. "There are only two outcomes to Donald Trump," says former Obama advisor David Axelrod in the ad. "Either he wins, or the election is fraudulent."
"[Trump] doesn't believe in this country and would not even agree to the results of this election if they were free and fair to him. A man who has incited a riot, a man who tried to overturn an election, a man who is liable of sexual abuse, a man who is a fraudster, a man who is a convicted felon," says Mika Brzezinski of MSNBC.
The DNC campaign will also feature homepage takeovers of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Arizona Republic, and Atlanta Journal-Constitution in the days leading up to July 4th.

The ad will premier just days after the Supreme Court ruled that presidents have legal immunity against crimes committed in an "official" capacity as chief executive, but did not specify what that meant. If Trump retakes office, he will operate under that impunity, which is sure to be the end of our democratic experiment.
"As Americans come together on Independence Day to celebrate the freedoms we hold dear and the democracy that generations of Americans have fought and died to protect, the choice before them is clear: dictatorship or democracy," DNC Communications Director Rosemary Boeglin said in a statement.
"This week, the DNC is reminding voters in critical battleground states that the only thing that stands between Donald Trump and our democracy is Joe Biden."
