Burnley are close to appointing former Fulham and Bournemouth boss Scott Parker as their new manager.

The Clarets, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, have been looking for a replacement for Vincent Kompany ever since he was prized away by Bayern Munich in May.

And now, after a prolonged process that has seen them linked with the likes of Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Frank Lampard and Liam Rosenior, Burnley look to finally have their man.

Parker, 43, has been out of work since being sacked by Club Brugge in March 2023 after an ill-fated two-and-a-half month spell in Belgium.

However, he has had previous success in the Championship, leading both Fulham and Bournemouth to promotion.

Parker took the Cottagers up through the play-offs, where they beat rivals Brentford in the final, while he guided the Cherries to automatic promotion, although he left the club in acrimony just four games into the following season.

In total, he has won 67 of his 172 games as a manager, and Burnley will hope he is the right option to lead them straight back to the Premier League.

Elsewhere, the Clarets continue to prepare for the new season by making a £2million offer for Santos left-back Lucas Pires.
