Karnataka Farmer's Unconventional Cultivation Of English Cucumbers Yields Success

Cucumber is one of the most popular foods of the summer season, a refreshing delight that relaxes you. This man from Karnataka has done something very unique by growing foreign cucumbers in our country’s climate.

Farming being conducted in poly houses is a very common practice, this man did something out of our imagination. Local 18 reports that this man, named Rajkumar Chauhan, took a piece of land on lease and grew an English cucumber.

Rajkumar Chauhan is a resident of Bommuru Agrahara, in the town of Srirangapatna, Mandya. As per the reports of Local18, he is a native of Andhra Pradesh who is currently staying in Mysuru. He had taken two acres of land on lease, on the bank of the Cauvery River near Bommuru Agrahara. He cultivated the vegetables with the help of a drip irrigation system.

According to the information given, the English cucumber is amassing a lot of demand and popularity in Kerala. Furthermore, growing cucumbers under a system of screens keeps the insects at bay. The crop is also protected from a hot, windy environment and heavy rains. The moisture within the plant does not dissipate easily. As per more information, the net house system’s price is way lower than the poly house (greenhouse) system. The screen can be developed in half the cost of a polyhouse.

A polyhouse is good for the climate of Europe, as it provides better heat to the plants – an important requirement. A climate like India’s is not suitable at all for its cultivation. According to Dr K K Sudhakar, the head of Kaveri Kanya Gurukul and geneticist, “Once the net is installed in the trap system, it can last for more than five years.” He adds, “The cost of net house system is less and profit is higher than polyhouse.” Rajkumar was able to harvest the vegetable within 30 days of planting it.
