Rudy Giuliani, Donald Trump’s former personal attorney, has been disbarred in New York following a state appeals court ruling that he repeatedly made false statements about Trump’s 2020 election loss.

The man once dubbed “America’s Mayor” had his New York law license suspended in 2021 for making false statements around the election. The court on Tuesday ruled Giuliani is now “disbarred from the practice of law, effective immediately, and until the further order of this Court, and his name stricken from the roll of attorneys and counselors-at-law in the State of New York.”

Rudy Giuliani Files For Bankruptcy After Ordered To Begin Payments In $148M Defamation Suit Loss

“The seriousness of respondent’s misconduct cannot be overstated,” the decision reads. Giuliani “flagrantly misused” his position and “baselessly attacked and undermined the integrity of this country’s electoral process.”

“In so doing, respondent not only deliberately violated some of the most fundamental tenets of the legal profession, but he also actively contributed to the national strife that has followed the 2020 Presidential election, for which he is entirely unrepentant,” the court wrote.

The court also ordered Giuliani to “desist and refrain” from practicing law in any form, appearing as an attorney before any court or judge, offering legal advice or “holding himself out in any way as an attorney and counselor-in-law.”

Among the court’s findings, Giuliani “falsely and dishonestly asserted to the public that people were brought from Camden, New Jersey, to vote illegally in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, during the 2020 presidential election.”

“These false statements were made to improperly bolster respondent’s narrative that due to widespread voter fraud, victory in the 2020 United States presidential election was stolen from his client,” the decision read.

Giuliani spokesperson Ted Goodman, said Giuliani will appeal the “objectively flawed” decision, and called on others in the legal community to speak out against the “politically and ideologically corrupted” decision.
