Report: Minnesota Vikings set to re-sign Super Bowl-winning offensive weapon pending physical
The Minnesota Vikings are set to bring back a Super Bowl-winning offensive weapon for the 2024 season. This offseason, the Vikings have prioritized adding and retaining skilled positions as they build their new offense around rookie J.J. McCarthy.
The Minnesota Vikings have plenty of weapons
McCarthy may not start this season, as the QB1 job appears to be firmly in Sam Darnold’s control before training camp. But Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, T.J. Hockenson, and Aaron Jones will be on the field when McCarthy is ready to take over the reins.
Funny enough, the Vikings’ biggest worries this offseason are who will assume the WR3 position with K.J. Osborn in New England and who will be RB2 behind Jones after Alexander Mattison went to Las Vegas.
The Vikings appear to have settled one question before Independence Day.
Cam Akers is set to rejoin the Vikings
According to Charley Walters with Twin Cities, the Vikings are expected to re-sign Cam Akers if he passes a physical.
Akers won Super Bowl LVI with the Los Angeles Rams. The Vikings traded with the Rams for Akers last season. He played in six games for the Vikings last season and ran for 138 yards and one touchdown. He caught 11 passes for 70 yards. He suffered an Achilles injury in Week 9 and finished the season on injured reserve.
The former second-round pick has 1,581 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns in his four-year NFL career. At 25, the Akers will provide plenty of upside for a young Vikings offense.
