Rebuilding an NFL team is no small feat, and the Carolina Panthers are taking significant strides in their efforts. With new general manager Dan Morgan at the helm, the Panthers have made some strategic moves to reshape their roster and build a competitive team.
One of the Panthers' notable achievements this offseason has been addressing their receiving corps. The acquisition of Diontae Johnson, a functional and reliable NFL receiver, provides the team with a valuable asset. Although Johnson hasn't surpassed 1,000 yards since 2021, his addition brings experience and depth to the Panthers' offense. Moreover, the trade-up for rookie Xavier Legette showcases the team's commitment to developing young talent with high potential, even if it may take time for him to fully mature into his role.
Morgan went crazy in free agency to beef up the offensive line. Adding Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis solidify a unit that was on e of the worst in the league last year. Drafting Jonathan Brooks and Ja’Tavion Sanders shows that Carolina wants more fire power for Bryce Young.
On the coaching front, the Panthers have brought in Dave Canales as their new head coach. Canales, known for his instrumental role in the resurgence of quarterbacks Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield, brings fresh perspectives and innovative strategies to the team. Despite having only one season as an NFL coordinator, his track record suggests he can make a significant impact.
While the Panthers faced challenges on defense, they made efforts to address these issues. The addition of A’Shawn Robinson helps to shore up the defensive line. The signing of Jadeveon Clowney to a multi-year contract adds a seasoned and dynamic player to their defensive lineup. While Josey Jewell, DJ Wonnum, K’Lavon Chaisson and rookie Trevin Wallace add depth to the linebackers. Dan Morgan also brought in Dane Jackson and Jordan Fuller to help stabilize the secondary.
Overall, the Panthers have made positive steps toward rebuilding their franchise, focusing on strengthening their offense and bringing in an experienced coaching staff to guide the team to success.
