An Overwatch 2 fan has highlighted a surprising detail about Torbjorn's turret, as the level 3 version still changes its appearance when newly released skins are equipped. Torbjorn received many adjustments on the way to Overwatch 2, and level 3 turrets were retired long ago, so it's not surprising that players were caught off guard by this detail.

When Overwatch 2 was released, much of the roster was reworked for the new 5v5 format, as its predecessor focused on 6v6. However, Torbjorn changed years before Overwatch 2. One of the bigger changes that Blizzard has made to Overwatch characters, Torbjorn was adjusted in several ways back in 2018. Overload became a standard ability, and his Ultimate became a hugely different version of Molten Core. Molten Core allows Torbjorn to fill the battlefield with pools of lava that deal significant damage to any players standing in it. Overload provides Torbjorn with improved health, attack damage, and speed, and while Torb is more fair now, some players miss the Level 3 turret from his old kit. Reddit user Wilftime recently shared an Overwatch 2 Arcade clip focusing on Torbjorn and his turret. The video showcases the Legendary Tentacle Horror skin equipped to Torbjorn and his turret. Torbjorn quickly uses his classic Ultimate within a custom mode, turning the blue details in his appearance orange, but facing the turret highlights the changes that are made to the accessory as it reaches level 3. While the level 2 turret features the same color scheme as the Cthulu skin and a central eyeball, the upgrade increases its height and gives the weapon wing-like fins above both of its gun barrels. The Overwatch 2 character then moves behind the turret to spotlight some of the smaller details that Overload adds to it.

Where Does This Overwatch 2 Cosmetic Come From?

The Tentacle Horror skin was released for Torbjorn in the Overwatch 2 Season 9 Battle Pass, unlocking at level 30. This Torbjorn skin isn't the only Cthulu-related cosmetic from the Battle Pass, as the Mythic Moira Ancient Caller skin also matched the theme. Given that there are many Torbjorn skins, this detail shows the extra work that Blizzard's art team puts in to ensure that the turret matches his appearance, even though Level 3 Turrets are a thing of the past. Torbjorn isn't the only character to receive such attention, as Cassidy changes his Ultimate ability dialogue in his Lifeguard skin, Sombra's Demon Hunter aesthetic does the same, and there are many other examples.

With the skins providing such unique details to many of the characters, players may grind to unlock more cosmetics to see what changes. This may also affect which skin gamers choose to use, as they may prefer one turret over another instead of strictly focusing on the changes to Torbjorn's appearance. As Blizzard continues to update Overwatch 2, future Torbjorn skins and his turret may get the same level of detail, which is surprising since this specific mechanic is no longer in the game.
