New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, while addressing the Lok Sabha, broke silence on the NEET controversy and said that the government will not spare those who are playing with the future of youth.
While addressing the lower house, PM Modi said, "To every youth of this country, I will say the government is extremely serious in stopping incidents like this and on battle ground, in order to fulfill our responsibilities, we are taking step-by-step action."
Highlighting that arrests are taking place across the nation in the NEET controversy matter, PM Modi said, "We will not spare those who are playing with the future of youth. The central government have already made a law regarding that. Also, strong steps are being taken in solidifying the system which conducts examination."
Rahul Gandhi's Request To PM Modi On NEET Issue
Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha, wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, requesting a debate in Parliament on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) issue tomorrow.
"I am writing to request for a debate in Parliament on NEET. As you are aware, the Opposition's request for a debate on this issue was denied in both Houses of Parliament on June 28. Yesterday, the Opposition had requested for a discussion on this issue again. The honourable Speaker of the Lok Sabha had given assurance to the opposition that he would discuss the matter with the government," Gandhi said in his letter.
"Our students deserve answers. A parliamentary debate is the first step towards rebuilding and restoring their faith. Given the urgency of the matter, I request the government to facilitate a debate in the House tomorrow. I believe that it would be fitting if you were to lead this debate in the interest of the students," the letter added.
"Our aim is to engage constructively to find a way forward. At this moment, our only concern is the welfare of nearly 24 lakh NEET aspirants across India. Lakhs of families have made tremendous personal sacrifices to support their children. For many, the paper leak is a betrayal of a lifetime dream," the letter read.
"Today these students and their families are looking up to us, their public representatives to take bold and decisive steps to resolve the issue," Gandhi added.
