WA farmers react to live sheep export ban
They couldn't change the government S policy. Now they're vowing to change the government. Make no mistake, the farming army and us and all our people behind us here are coming to get them. Federal Labour's live sheep export ban passed the Senate last night after the government guillotine debate order there been 33 ayes and 30 Nos. The matter is resolved in the affirmative, sounding the death knell for live sheep exports by sea by May 2028. They're trying to do everything they can to break the sheep's back, but we won't let that happen. Where are we left in this situation? What are we transition to? There's nothing transitioned to ensuring we know that the Australian people voted for this, including in WA, and now that commitment has been delivered. The Federal Government has set aside $107 million to help support the industry through the phase out, a figure state Labor says is not enough and will continue to lobby Canberra for more. This is not a matter of compensating people for getting out of an industry, it's about helping the industry adjust to a new future. Based on more onshore processing, Keep the sheep campaigners now setting their sights on marginal Labor held seats ahead of next year South federal election. Our farming army will be out this week campaigning in your seats to make sure that we change government and that W agriculture still has a voice. We need to keep all the channels open, the markets open, the ships. Everybody needs to be prepared for a change of government because that change of government will actually see this trade continue.
